Internship Experience: Mercer Street Friends Food Bank

(NJ.com) – As a junior at Princeton University, Victoria Worthen was attracted to the posting for a summer internship at Mercer Street Friends because of a strong interest in nutrition and obesity prevention.

The experience turned out to be so much more than she imagined. Through the research she conducted to update the food bank’s hunger fact sheets, Worthen learned how great a risk there is for obesity in poor communities because of the larger access to inexpensive, calorie-dense foods and limited access to areas for physical activity.
