The RFK Center internships provide great experience for undergraduates interested in the general workings of a not-for-profit organization.
All interns will assist with general administrative and clerical work for the RFK Center. In addition to administrative duties, specific responsibilities for each department include:
- Development – Internships with the Development department will include: conducting research and drafting memoranda on corporate, foundation, and government funding; assisting with document preparation for submission to foundations, corporations, and government entities; database management and data entry; and assistance with event preparation.
- Communication – Internships with the Communications department will include: monitoring various media sources for news updates relevant to the RFK Center; assisting in the preparation of materials for media use; assisting in the maintenance of the RFK Center’s social media presence; and translating documents (if applicable).
- Human Rights Education (Speak Truth To Power – STTP) – Internships with Speak Truth To Power (STTP) will include: creating original content for the STTP website and conducting research on current human rights issues relevant to the STTP Human Rights Defenders.
- Partners for Human Rights (PHR) – Internships with Partners for Human Rights (PHR) will include conducting factual research and drafting memoranda on the human rights situation in countries of interest to the Center and on thematic issues; attending and reporting on briefings, Congressional hearings, symposia on programmatic issues; monitoring sources of information on countries and issues of concern to the Center, and collecting, organizing and analyzing relevant information.
Applicants must have completed at least one year of undergraduate education and have a demonstrated interest in human rights. Ability in one of the following languages is helpful, but not required: Arabic, French, Italian, or Spanish. Please note that internships are unpaid.
