Internship Experience: Utah County Jail
(Daily Herald) – One of the biggest issues facing jail residents when trying to reintegrate into society is just that — reintegration.
But an internship program through Utah Valley University is giving a pair of students a chance to help outgoing inmates connect with community services to become productive citizens again.
Instead of filling the positions with full-time staff, jail administrators decided instead to create two part-time internships to provide graduating students studying social work the unique opportunity of working with county jail residents.
Students Kristina Oakley and Chantelle Atkin have been at the Utah County Jail since classes started last August.
